All Island Weddings don't take place in Hawaii

If you mention the term Island wedding you'd be excused for having an image of Hawaii pop up into your head. It is no doubt a piece of imaginary you share with many people. While I won't in any way discredit Hawaii as a wedding destination, there are many viable options that are just as beautiful.

Northern islands

Although it may not sound exciting at first, Mount Desert Island in Maine is one exceptionally great location for an island wedding. There you have excellent beaches, panoramic vistas as well the Acadia National Park, and Mount Desert Island is also famous for being the best in many different categories related to holding weddings there. The most popular place on this island is Bar Harbor and another equally popular place is Frenchman Bay where island weddings are held very often. And, for more peace and quiet there is Southwest Harbor that is situated just twenty minutes away from Bar Harbor.

With the right permit (costs about $50) you could also have Acadia National Park as a spectacular backdrop for your ceremony. Travelling a bit north to Nova Scotia, you arrive at Cape Breton that actually is a quite popular wedding destination. What all the above mentioned islands have in common is that they provide excellent opportunities for various outdoor activities.

The warmth of the south

If you want the warmth of California and wish to know of a place for an island wedding, you could head about twenty odd miles from Los Angeles to a an island known as Santa Catalina Island, which is a place where romance will bloom in even the stoniest of hearts. This is indeed a popular place to hold island weddings and thus you can choose from a number of different places including Descanso Beach Club and Catalina Country Club. There are also places that are very intimate and cozy though you may need to get a permit first.

Another choice where you can hold your island weddings is in Florida at a place known as Sanibel Islands where there are excellent beaches where one can even find plentiful sea-shells that are washed ashore in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. It is certainly a welcome change from high-rise buildings so common in many beach tourist destinations and a good venue to hold island weddings would no doubt is Casa Ybel Resort’s Thistle Lodge that has over hundred years of experience in holding weddings and there are also some other more secluded spots to choose from as well.

In conclusion, while I wouldn't be against anyone wanting to get married in Hawaii, I hope this article has opened your eyes to some of the equally beautiful locations available to you.
